I'd rather save money by abolishing SHIT like the 'Pacific Solution' or the laser guided bombs we had to buy off the US so we could bomb Iraq with (nothing against having defences but there was NOTHING defensive about bombing Iraq)

There's plenty of SHIT spending that could be axed before we abandon multiculturalism.

Yeah, I've always been a little squeamish about giving blood and been able to hide behind the fact that I'm British (Taffy) so I can't, now I actually wouldn't mind donating some.

The question is what is to be learned from this?

Some have called for greater powers to compel people to leave their homes. I doubt this is a good idea.

Advising people to leave early or stay and defend looks like bad advice now as many stayers realised too late that there was no real way to defend and either died at their house or leaving late and panicked.

The South Australians seem to have had some success targeting known or suspected arsonists

One couple survived in a bunker. It should not cost too much to dig a fairly small hole, line it with cinder blocks and throw some dirt on some corrugated iron on the top.. You only need an hour down there to survive.

No doubt the Royal Commission will sift through the factors that made this so bad and come up with some ideas.

Apart from making a donation I note that we waste an estimated AUD$6billion each year on multiculturalism. Might it be better if we suspend the English language lessons and the poncing about in national costumes by the various ethnic groups and spend that money on rebuilding the lives of people who have lost so much in these horrendous fires?

I felt Turnbull used his name and his statements,about fireys in a very supportive way,and maybe he himself is a much deeper human being,than I have suspected.I don't know about the firey's health after this though,lungs and mental state.Perhaps some University somewhere should investigate decompression chambers for firefighters to free them up a bit from any lungshit hanging on.And all fire engines should have negative ion generators in them as advertised in the Queensland Magazine Nexus ,Duncan Rhoades Editor.They might have some degree of toxicity in around their eyes,cold water hand towels or flannels over the eyes when at rest horizontally.And dont be surprised,if not shocked, after the fires another wave of disaster occurs,cannot name it yet,maybe in deep winter and the bloody opposite..big freeze or infrastructure collapse.After all Victorians have seen the rail shrinkage, perhaps metal fatigue will visit in very unexciting ways.I will carry that cross as burden ,if my premonition proves to show its ugly head.

Iain, i think it's a vaild question to ask where Turnbull is, he does represent Australians and has yet to survey Australia's biggest natural disater. Some things are bigger than politics and we have a right to ask where he is surely without being slandered?
